What is general liability?

General Liability insurance is a baseline policy held by a business owner or general contractor that guards against claims for injury or damage for which a company or its employees are found responsible. A classic example would be a lawsuit from someone who slips on an unmarked wet floor in a supermarket—without general liability insurance, the store would be on the hook for the full sum awarded by a court, a potentially disastrous scenario. While General Liability insurance is not mandatory in the state of Arizona, it would be unwise to assume the risk of operating without it.

Do I really need Workers' Compensation?

Yes — All employers in Arizona that employ one or more people, either full or part-time, are required to provide workers' compensation coverage. Employees do not have to pay anything toward this coverage.

Any employee injured on the job is potentially eligible for workers' compensation, and should promptly report the incident to their employer. Medical bills and lost wages can be a crippling expense, and relief through workers’ compensation is far easier to obtain than compensation sought through a lawsuit against your business. The employer needn’t be at fault for an employee to receive workers’ comp benefits, and similarly the employee needn’t be faultless to be eligible.
